Is it okay to wear plastic hair accessories to a semi-formal event?

I have thick hair and the only way I can wear it up is with a special super grip plastic clip I have. It's black, the same color as my hair, so it blends in pretty well, but I'm worried it will look cheap or tacky. I was thinking of getting some jeweled pins to clip up my hair in the front, to draw attention away from the black plastic clip. Would that work?

The only other option I have is to go to a salon and have them use 75 pins and a ton of hair spray like I did at my wedding, but I don't really want to spend the money and time since this event isn't THAT formal, just a gala dinner. Any suggestions?

yes you can wear the clasp, but I would go to an arts/crafts store and find some really pretty crystals, siilk flowers, beads, sequence, whatever and and dress it up.

Use the black clip, it cant be that tacky. Its just a hair clip! Dont worry. People shouldnt be looking at what you used to make your hair pretty, they should be looking at your hair!

Other clips could help too!they mght be pretty! good luck!

Yeah, that would work. Unless you could find a jeweled up clip or jewel the clip up yourself with hotglue to cover the plastic.

As long as it isnt obvious..

Since it is semi-formal, you could probably get away with it, but why get away with something when you can be "stunning."? Why not go to some salons or hair stores and get a hair clip that has rhinestones or designs on it? If not, you can always use the clip and then put a few jeweled pins in. Whatever makes you comfortable.

How about wearing your hair down? Consider how long you have before the event and try and work with it. There are so many products out there that allow you control your hair or keep the curl. How about buying a jeweled hair clip? I have seen them at places like Claire's boutique and other stores like them. I think there are lots of different options aside from wearing it up, especially if you feel self conscious about using the plastic clip or don't want to spend the money at the salon (I know what you mean about the bobby pins, I think they used about 100 on mine for a wedding once!!) Good luck!

Try wearing it down. Use thoes forgotten hot rollers or a curling iron. If you want the bangs back then use a nice jewelled clip. But leave the plastic clippie at home. it's a big fashion don't for even a semi formal occasion.
