How do you curl your hair with a curling iron without using the "clip" thing??

i've heard that you can wrap your hair around your curling iron and not put the little clip thing down. how do you do that?? i've tried it and i dont get it. i did it once by holding the curling iron verticle and wrapping my hair around it... and it did not curl at all. how do i do it????

you can do this with or without the heat protecting glove but it would be alot easier with.

all you do is take a strand of hair, wrap it around the shaft tightly, hold for a couple seconds and release. they should give you nice waves/curls.

hmm.. not sure.. i know you can clip it in the middle of the hair strand and then wrap it around ... but i dont know about not using it at all...
